Welcome to Frederick Country Day!The focus of Frederick Country Day is to provide a quality learning environment for children ages two through kindergarten, and to encourage the growth of their natural curiosity and joy of learning in a safe nurturing setting. All head teachers have four year degrees in Childhood Education or are Certified Child Development Associates. Head teachers in the Montessori program are Montessori Certified. The 2-3 year old program is licensed through the Department of Human Resources and serves as a Montessori readiness program for our Montessori classrooms. The 3-K program is a Montessori School. The format of the center integrates the use of Montessori materials into the early childhood program based on the following six interrelated areas: Practical Life: The child develops an independent approach to personal care and increases small motor coordination through the use of varied exercises and manipulatives. Using objects the child recognizes from the home such as buttons, brushes, pitchers and water help the child toward these goals. The child also learns to pay attention to details as he or she follows a regular sequence of actions. Language: Building language skills continues in an enriching atmosphere. The children are given names for everything in the environment, and through tactile and auditory manipulatives such as sand paper letters are introduced to individual sounds. After acquiring sounds, the child continues language development by making words using the movable alphabet. Sensorial: Young children meet the world around them through the constant use of their senses. This is an ideal time to give children the equipment which will sharpen the senses and enable the child to understand the many sensorial expressions. Each of the sensorial materials defines one quality such as color, weight, size or sound. Mathematics:: If a child has access to concrete mathematical equipment, he or she can easily assimilate many of the facts and skills of arithmetic. Sensorial mathematical materials help the child through manipulation and repetition of mathematical concepts. The program provides your children with the keys to enable them to continue their own exploration of abstract number concepts. Social Studies:: The objective of the social studies program is to make the child aware of not only his or her environment, but other people and places, similarities and differences. Science: The objective of the science program is to make your child aware of the world around us. It builds on a child's natural curiosity and joy of discovery, and encourages the child to find out "WHY?".
